Scholarship Program
[Printable pdf version]
We offer scholarships to kids under the age of 18 who otherwise would not have the opportunity to take music lessons. A limited number of scholarships are provided by Drum/Music School 101 through Bucket Busters fund raising and donations from individuals and businesses.
Commonly Asked Questions:
Q: How do we determine who gets a scholarship?
Drum School 101 works with various agencies such as, Family Care Network (foster care),
Women’s Shelter, Social Services, or school teachers who refer “at risk” kids to our program.
Because we are not equipped to have background information on a child and their families, we rely on these agencies to recommend kids to our program. Occasionally we will offer a scholarship to an existing student who otherwise would have to quit lessons because of a temporary financial circumstance.
Q: How long can a scholarship last?
Usually 6 months but we don’t have a definite time limit. It’s usually determined by the instructor and Drum School 101 based on the student’s commitment to practice and show achievement.
Q: Is there any cost to the student?
Yes, we have found that if you give something away for free, it can be perceived as having no value. Therefore, the student (or agency) pays $20 per month and the scholarship fund pays the rest.
Q: How much does a scholarship lesson cost?
Scholarship funded lessons are given at the reduced price of $100 per month (20 from the student, $80 from the scholarship fund). Therefore, a student can be sponsored for $80 per month.
Q: Are scholarships only for drum lessons or other instruments as well?
Although our program is about 80% drums, we currently offer guitar, bass, and piano lessons at our Nipomo studio location, Music School 101 which is also included in the Scholarship program.
Q: How can someone donate to the scholarship fund?
1) One time donation for any amount.
2) Sponsor a weekly lesson of $80 a month for 6 months.
3) Make one payment of $480 for 6 months of prepaid music lessons.
